A 30 day offline process where the filmmaker becomes both subject & documentarian.

OnLife follows SJ, an entrepreneur, author, single mom, and public facing creative as she steps fully offline & documents what unfolds when a new mode emerges.

ABOUT THE DOCUMENTARY FILM

What begins as a personal experiment quickly becomes a high stakes reckoning, where identity, work, motherhood, relationships, and reality itself are tested in real time.

As Samantha Joy (SJ) disconnects from the systems that structure modern life, deeper patterns begin to surface. Communication and expectations are challenged, and long held beliefs around productivity, availability, success, and self worth are evaluated at the most foundational levels.

The film documents not only the relief and clarity that emerge through disconnection, but also the destabilization, grief and social consequences that accompany stepping outside the pace and demands of a hyper connected world.

Through intimate daily documentation and integrated expert voices across neuroscience, psychology, technology, and culture, OnLife explores what happens when a person no longer participates in the constant performance of modern life and what becomes possible in its absence.

As neurological testing, environmental exposure, and relational dynamics are tracked, a deeper question begins to emerge:

What parts of ourselves are altered in keeping up with the systems surrounding us and what returns when those systems are interrupted?

What starts as one woman opting out becomes a cultural mirror, exposing the hidden societal costs of constant connectivity while revealing the possibility of a radically different way of living on the other side.

Samantha Joy

Samantha Joy (SJ) is a business owner, author, and identity coach whose work explores the intersection of consciousness, environment, and human behavior. She is the Founder of Landon Hail Press, an independent publishing company recognized for bringing impactful stories to market and expanding access to thought-provoking, purpose-driven content. Through its titles, Landon Hail Press’s authors have been featured across media outlets such as People, Forbes, Yahoo, Daily Mail, among others.

SJ is also the Founder of The Less Effect Method and the #1 bestselling author of The Less Effect: Design Your Life for Happiness and Purpose, a framework centered on reshaping identity by clearing inherited patterns and redesigning the conditions that shape how we live. Her work has supported CEOs, founders, and creatives in cultivating clarity, presence, and alignment by addressing the deeper structures beneath identity and behavior.

Drawing from her experience as a former Vice President, entrepreneur, and mother, Samantha brings a grounded yet expansive perspective to transformation, challenging dominant narratives around mindset, self-sabotage, and performance. Her approach positions culture and identity as the primary pathways for meaningful, sustained change.

OnLife marks a natural extension of her work. Rather than observing transformation from a distance, she places herself at the center of the experiment, documenting in real time what happens when the systems that shape modern identity are removed. The film expands her practice into a broader collective inquiry, examining presence, perception, and the evolving relationship between human consciousness and technology.
